5 Tips for Proper Gun Range Etiquette

Being prepared is important in any situation, no matter where you are. If you decide to go to a premier shooting range, you should brush up on the proper etiquette. Bullets and Broadheads, your local shooting range in Grande Prairie, greatly appreciates your interest in proper gun range etiquette and safety. Our team will do everything we can to make your experience safe and enjoyable, but it will be even better if you do your part to help foster that safe environment. Here are five simple tips for proper gun range etiquette:

Know Firearm Safety Rules

“Safety first” is a common saying that holds true at gun ranges. Etiquette and manners are important, but the number one priority at a gun range is safety. Before stepping into a shooting range, make sure to review all gun safety rules, including:

-Never point a gun at something you do not intend to destroy.
-Treat all firearms as if they are loaded.
-Be completely aware of your surroundings.
-Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on your target.

Clean Up After Yourself

Think of a shooting range like a campsite. Would you leave your trash behind for others to clean up? Of course not! Before you go, scan your station for any dropped trash or personal belongings. Try to leave the gun range even cleaner than when you got there.

Leave Teaching to the Instructors

If you notice someone who you think could use some pointers on their technique, please do not offer unsolicited advice. Fortunately, there are Range Safety Officers on site who will help anyone who needs it. It is their job to answer questions and help out anyone who needs assistance at the gun range. But if you are interested in learning more about firearms, we offer several courses you can take.

Review Shooting Range’s Rules Before You Get There

Every gun range has regulations that it has to follow, but each gun range also has its own rules in addition to the required ones. Before coming to the shooting range, make sure to take a look through their specific rules. For example, at Bullets and Broadheads, we encourage people to bring their own guns and ammo if they would like to. We also have a great selection of guns to rent. However, we have certain rules to follow. For example, you can’t mix our guns with your own ammo. This is why it is important to familiarize yourself with the shooting range’s rules. If you have any questions, we are happy to answer them!
